General

Posters should be self-explanatory, allowing the viewer to enjoy and understand your presentation even in your absence. Most likely, several individuals will be looking at your poster at one time. If your poster is prepared with simple labels, large print, and a clear sequence from beginning to end, the viewer will be able to follow the ideas presented. Funding is available from TWU for the printing of your poster through one of the two on-campus printing services as long as funds last.

TWU will conduct workshops on creating your poster presentation. The times for these workshops will be announced as soon as they are available.

Campus Printing Services

There are two places on-campus to have posters printed, Kinesiology and Instructional Support Services.  Because of the volume of presentations to the Student Symposium and Homecoming activities, it is strongly advised that you begin working with your choice of print facilities ASAP.

Kinesiology

To have your poster printed by the Department of Kinesiology, contact Rhonda Reed at 940-898-2571. The final file (ready to print) must be received by Kinesiology no later than Monday, April 2, 2012. You need to contact Kinesiology in order to start this process.

Instructional Support Services (ISS)

To have your poster printed by ISS, contact Brian Elmore at 940-898-3784 or email BElmore@twu.edu. The final file (ready to print) must be received by ISS no later than Monday, April 2, 2012.

Instructions for Creating a Poster Presentation

Templates

Graphics

  • Graphs are best presented in variations of black and white, solids and patterns because many people are color blind.
  • Each figure or table should have a heading of one or two lines in large, bold letters.
  • For readability, font should be at least 18 point.
  • Keep "clipart" to a minimum. Don't detract from the information you are presenting.

Components

      Posters should include:

  • Project title, researchers' names
  • Abstract
  • Research question, objective or problem
  • Research theories, methods or procedures
  • Results and brief conclusions [bulleted lists are best]

Other features and supplies

  • A sign-up sheet for requests for more information
  • Copies of the abstract
  • Push-pins, dissecting pins, or Velcro to hang the poster (no tape or staples)

Preparation assistance

  • Remember the display board is 6’ x 5’ in size.
  • Please have your poster mounted on your assigned display board by the time your session is scheduled to begin.
  • Mount your poster on the display board (or table, if requested) with your assigned presentation number (given to you at registration table).
  • You must provide your own pushpins. You will not be allowed to use tape or staples.
  • You are to stay with your poster to answer questions during your entire session time.
  • You may wish to have handouts available that describe your research in more detail.
  • A “photo team” may attend the poster sessions and request a photo of you with your poster. These photos will help TWU advertise the symposium and promote student research support at TWU.
  • Dress professionally.
  • You should remove your poster from the display board as soon as your session has ended, so the next presenter can mount her/his poster.
  • Be sure to invite your friends, family and faculty.
  • Thank you very much for participating in the Symposium!
