| Description of research activities: (1) Vicarious traumatization. Examining the effects on social workers, therapists, counselors, etc. of working with victims of domestic violence. Focus on individual strategies and organizational/agency strategies for helping workers overcome the effects of vicarious trauma. Pilot survey of domestic violence agencies in Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex completed, currently working on statewide Texas survey of agencies. (2) Men and Masculinity: Examining the effects of traditional gender socialization of boys and men in U. S. society. Focus on process and content of socialization and the effects of traditional notions of masculinity on males, sense of self, relations with others, rates of violence, suicide, and other behaviors. Implications for social work professionals and social work educators. | |
