Description of research activities:  Dr. Scott’s research into writing pedagogies, writing across the curriculum, and authorship attribution is unified by an interest in the methodologies used by scholars in English studies. Previous work has included classroom experiments on collaborative writing and a secondary analysis of data in a Shakespearean authorship debate. Current projects focus primarily on methodological problems facing researchers in the writing classroom, including how to control for academic dishonesty (particularly plagiarism) and how we might improve our statistical sampling. A secondary interest, reflected in recent collaborations with political scientists, is in political rhetoric and political grammar.
Keywords: Composition; rhetoric; pedagogy; methodology; writing across the curriculum; attribution; plagiarism; writing program administration; politics.
