Title: Assistant Professor
Department: Teacher Education
Email address: bleavell@mail.twu.edu
Description of research activities:   Dr. Leavell’s key interests lie in two areas: a) discovering K-16 students’ perspectives regarding their educations and their educational ‘self’; and b) determining alternatives to the current model of music education which address rather than attempt to change students’ musical preferences.  For example: Political and philosophical trends among pre-service teachers.  Pre-service teachers’ perspective of the effectiveness of the teacher preparation programs and its impact on their self-efficacy.  The educational ‘self’:  Children’s self concept through the lens of George Herbert Mead’s “I” and “Me”.   Music education:  Is the current isolation from societal ‘musicking’ good for kids?
