RESEARCH AT TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSITY

FACULTY PROFILE SYSTEM

Name: Bryan Bilyeu, PhD
Title: Visiting Assistant Professor
Department: Chemistry and Physics
Email address: bbilyeu@mail.twu.edu
Description of research activities: Dr. Bilyeu's research specialty is the analytical characterization of materials.  His students and he principally use Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), and Scanning Electron Microscopy to characterize chemical, energetic, physical and thermodynamic properties and transitions of pharmaceuticals, natural and synthetic polymers, biological macromolecules and composites.  His current projects involve the trace metal elemental analysis of hair for medical diagnosis, oil for engineering wear analysis, water and soil for environmental evaluation; thermal analysis of polymorphism in pharmaceuticals; and the evaluation of natural and synthetic heavy metal sorbents for wastewater remediation.  In addition to independent research and industrial contract work, his students and him actively collaborate with Materials Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas, Environmental Sciences and Chemistry at the Autonomous State University of Mexico (UAEM) and Chemistry & Physics and the Industrial Science and Technology Program at Southeastern Louisiana University and develop procedures and protocols for the Thermal Analysis division of Perkin Elmer as well as participating in standard development symposia at the American Society of Testing and Materials.
