| Description of research activities: Dr. Vardell's research is focusing on children's poetry-- award winners, statistics on library holdings, children's preferences, and poetry performance strategies. Young children enjoy the rhyme and rhythm of nursery rhymes, older children respond to narrative and humor, and young adults can appreciate subtlety and symbolism. However, their exposure to poetry is often limited. Why? How do we expand children's poetry experiences? What benefits might there be? Recently, Dr. Vardell is interested in developing our Historical Collection of children's literature into a distinctive scholarly resource. | |
