The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs is responsible for coordinating the University's internal review of proposals for external funding for research, regardless of the funding source. The same office also handles institutional review of projects proposed by faculty for funding by federal or state government agencies, whether research-related or not; thus, community service projects or institutional training grant applications are also routed through this office.
The main office is located on the campus in Denton. There is a satellite office at the TWU Houston Center.
A secondary responsibility of the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs is to assist faculty in the grant application process. Thus, the office disseminates information on funding opportunities, offers workshops on various aspects of proposal writing and budget preparation, contacts faculty with information about specific funding opportunities, and promotes activities at TWU that bear on the search for external funding. Office staff conduct funding searches, prepare project budgets, fill out certification and assurance forms, format narratives from text provided on disk, proof and edit textual material, check proposals to see that they conform to sponsor guidelines or regulations, route proposals for institutional signature, make appropriate number of copies
and transmit these copies to the sponsor or submit the proposals electronically. A biostatistician provides assistance and consultation to faculty on statistics.
Research & Sponsored Programs also provides staff support and administration for the University's program of internal support for research--the Research Enhancement Program. A
Scientific Equipment Repair Service also reports to Research &
Sponsored Programs.
The office staff support research-related committees at TWU:
Institutional Review Board (formerly the Human Subject Review Committee);
Animal Care and Use Committee (Denton);
Research Support Committee;
and the
Institutional Biosafety Committee.
