Tuition Rebate Plan Agreement
TWU's Tuition Rebate Plan is called the "TRPlan". Students who enroll with well-defined interests and who want to complete their undergraduate study within the three-attempted-hour limit are eligible for a rebate of up to $1,000. The amount of the rebate is based on the amount of tuition paid and can not exceed $ 1,000. The TRPlan is an agreement between the University and those students who choose to participate in the plan.
Students accept responsibility for monitoring their own progress toward degrees and for making choices that will allow them to graduate within the limit. TWU is responsible for maintaining systems of advising so students can track their progress, and agrees to provide the needed courses or their equivalents.
The university continues to encourage breadth and exploration as essential parts of an education. The TRPlan is designed to assure that students are carefully guided in their course choices, while still benefiting from the rich educational opportunities offered by TWU. Those students who conclude the TRPlan does not meet their academic and/or personal goals are encouraged to develop, in consultation with their academic advisor, a plan and timetable for completing the courses that will allow them to achieve their individual and professional and personal aspirations. Those students who do not participate in the plan will still benefit from descriptions of recommended patterns of progress toward degrees and enhanced advising services that are available to all students.
General Conditions
- Freshmen students must enter the University with appropriate preparation to begin a degree program.
- Students must have enrolled for the first time in an institution of higher education in the fall of 1997 or later.
- Students must be residents of the State of Texas and entitled to pay resident student rates at all times while pursuing the degree and all coursework must have been taken at a Texas public institution.
- A degree plan must be on file in the Records and Registration Office before the TRPlan Agreement is submitted.
- Students must submit a completed TRPlan Agreement before or with their Graduation Application form. The deadline date for the Graduation Application form shall also be the last opportunity to file the TRPlan.
- Transfer students must submit an official transcript from each institution attended. Transfer students must have been a resident of the State of Texas and have been entitled to pay resident student rates at all times while pursuing a degree.
- Students are responsible for meeting deadlines and requirements; therefore, students must regularly monitor their progress toward graduation. Such monitoring includes meeting each semester, in a timely manner prior to registration, with their academic advisor.
- For courses required by the major and for graduation, students must accept any available section that can be accommodated in their course schedule and must register at their assigned registration time.
- Students must be admitted and remain in good academic standing to the school/college and department which offer their major.
- Students may change majors and remain in the program if, at the time the student decides to make the change, he or she can still meet the requirements of the new major and graduate within the three-attempted-hour limit. Students may enroll in an additional major or in programs leading to additional licensing and certification, and remain in plan, if they can complete these additional requirements and those of their first major within the three-attempted-hour limit. Students must see their academic advisor in a timely manner in order to accomplish these changes or additions.
- Students must accept responsibility for timely annual application for all necessary financial assistance. Students must be admitted and remain in good academic standing to the school/college and department which offer their major.
- If, after working with their advisor, it appears that a course may be unavailable, students must notify the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, in writing, prior to the beginning of classes in the term in which the course would be needed.
- If the student meets all the conditions of the plan, but is unable to graduate due to the unavailability of a course, the University will offer one of the following:
-
- Allow the student to graduate by substituting a different course or an independent study assignment, as determined by the department and the college offering the student's major.
- Allow the student to graduate by waiving the requirements to be met by the unavailable course, as determined by the department and college offering the student's major.
-
These procedures shall be the exclusive remedy for the TRPlan agreement. The University is under no obligation to provide one of these adjustments unless the student submits a written request for an accommodation to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs prior to the beginning of classes in the last term of the student's enrollment.
If a student, entitled to a rebate under this plan, has an outstanding student loan--including an emergency loan, owed or guaranteed by the state, including the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation--TWU shall apply the amount of the rebate to the student's loan. If a student has more than one outstanding loan, the University shall apply the amount of the rebate to the loans as directed by the student or, if the student fails to provide timely instruction on the application of the amount, the institution shall apply the amount of the rebate according to set priorities. If the amount of the rebate exceeds the amount of the loan indebtedness, TWU shall pay the student the amount of the excess amount.
By signing the paper version of this agreement, the student agrees to satisfactorily complete coursework identified on the attached degree plan, comply with the TRPlan General Conditions, and meet the requirements to graduate within three attempted hours of the minimum required for the degree. The University, by signature of the administrator indicated below, agrees to offer the courses or equivalents needed by the student to graduate.
A printable copy of this agreement with the required signature lines is available at TRPlan.
