Graduation Information


  • December 19, 2009................Deadline to Apply:  September 16, 2009

Degree Plans

Must be submitted one year prior to the expected date of graduation.
Undergraduates use the DARS Degree Plan Verification Form. 

Application for Graduation

All students must apply online for graduation through the Pioneer Portal.
  • May and August applications become active online the second week of November.

Applications must be completed and submitted by the official Census Day of the semester that you plan to graduate. August graduates be aware that this occurs the first week of June.  To see what the online application looks like without actually applying, you may go to How to Apply for Graduation.

 Deadline Dates for Candidates - No applications can be accepted after the deadline for any semester

  • Thursday, December 17, 2009: Credits for correspondence courses, incomplete work, and changes of grades, courses to be transferred must be filed in the TWU Registrar's Office.  Receiving a grade of Incomplete in the last semester will make you ineligible for graduation.
  • Thursday, December 17, 2009: If an official transcript for a transfer course is not available until after graduation, then undergraduate candidates must obtain a letter of good standing from the transfer institution's instructor and submit it to the TWU Office of  the Registrar (This letter can also be faxed to 940/898-3097).

To receive a refund of your application fee, the Registrar's Office MUST RECEIVE your written withdrawal from graduation no later than eight weeks before the ceremony (October 23, 2009).

Failure to meet these deadlines or any other requirement of your degree will require you to reapply for the next semester.

Information for all Candidates

Guest Tickets
Tickets for guests must be issued because of our growing numbers of graduates attending the ceremonies. Therefore, we must request that you limit the number of guests you invite to no more than seven. Your guests should be advised to arrive early. Guests MUST have a ticket to enter the arena for the ceremony. 

Our goal is to accommodate as many guests as possible.  We request that students who do not need all of their tickets return tickets to the Registrar's Office so they may be distributed to other students.

If you indicated on your application that you would be attending the ceremony, you must pick up your tickets for your guests in the Registrar's Office, Admissions Building 128 beginning November 9th.

The Office of Records and Registration will be open from 8.00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009, to provide ticket pick up service for candidates who cannot come earlier.

Only students who marked on their application that they would be attending are eligible for tickets.

Special Accommodations
If you or your guests will need specific accommodations (sign language interpreters, escorts, or accessible seating, etc.) for the ceremony, please notify the Commencement Committee through the Disability Support Services office at 940/898-3835 or  dss@twu.edu at least one week prior to the commencement ceremonies.

Line Up
Upon arriving at Pioneer Hall, undergraduate candidates will line up on the south end of the second floor and graduate candidates will line up on the north end of the second floor. Please arrive with your regalia at the correct location no later than 45 minutes before your ceremony.

  • Pick up your name card in the rotunda area of the second floor.
  • Line up in alphabetic order behind the sign with your degree on it.
  • Doctoral candidates will receive specific instructions about hooding upon arrival.
  • ONLY CANDIDATES WILL BE ALLOWED UPSTAIRS.

Photography
A professional photographer will be at the ceremony to take a photograph of each graduate. There is no obligation to purchase pictures, but you will receive a proof of the picture approximately a week after the ceremony.

Bookstore
Representatives will be available Commencement Day in the Bookstore to assist with regalia from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Information about announcements and regalia will be available starting October 21st at the bookstore. Please contact the bookstore after this date for further information.

Diplomas
All diplomas will be mailed approximately 7 weeks after December 19, 2009 unless:

  • Written notification is received by the Office of the Registrar that you would like to pick up your diploma instead of having it mailed. This written notification is due in our office on or before December 19, 2009, or
  • There are holds on your student accounts, which must be cleared before transcripts and diplomas can be issued. This includes parking tickets, library fines, account balances, etc.).

If you are moving after graduation, please submit to the Office of the Registrar a written request for an address change as soon as possible and specify on this request, "NEW ADDRESS FOR MAILING DIPLOMA."
