Before registering for courses make sure that you have taken all the required course prerequisites. The purpose of a course prerequisite is to ensure that each student has acquired a solid foundation to assist him or her through the natural progression of toward more advanced courses.

NOTE: Prerequisites are not optional. Although the automated registration may allow you to complete initial registration for the course, if you have not successfully completed all required prerequisites, you will be dropped from the course.

NOTE: PSY 1013 Introduction to General Psychology, PSY 1603 Developmental Psychology, and PSY 3013 Professional Development in Psychology should be taken as early as possible in your coursework.

These courses are intended to give you a solid foundation in psychological theory and serve as prerequisites for many of the advanced courses.

NOTE: After completing the foundation courses described above, you should take PSY 3303 Applied Statistics followed by PSY 3354 Experimental Psychology. These courses serve as a second set of prerequisites for many of the remaining upper-level courses.

The following is a list of courses offered at TWU as well as the course prerequisites associated with each:

PSY 1013- Intro to General Psychology

  • This course has no prerequisites
  • It is the main prerequisite for all other Psychology courses.

PSY 1603- Developmental Psychology

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction of General Psychology

PSY 3013 – Professional Development in Psychology

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction of General Psychology
  • Although not formally listed as a pre-requisite, this class should be taken ASAP following PSY 1013.

PSY 3023 Social Psychology

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction of General Psychology

PSY 3163/3161 Introduction to Behavioral Therapy/Behavioral Therapy Lab

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction of General Psychology
  • Requires successful completion of PSY 3513 Abnormal Psychology
  • Corequisites: Student must register for both PSY 4103 and PSY 4101 in the same semester.

PSY 3303- Applied Statistics

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction of General Psychology
  • Requires successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in 3 hours of MATH

PSY 3354- Experimental Psychology

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction of General Psychology
  • Requires successful completion of PSY 3303 Applied Statistics

PSY 3513- Abnormal Psychology

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction to General Psychology
  • Requires successful completion of one additional 3-hour Psychology course

PSY 3633- Adolescent Psychology

  • Requires successful completion of PSY 1013 Introduction of General Psychology
  • Requires successful completion of one additional 3-hour Psychology course
