This fall we are offering a workshop series called Learning and the Social Web, which will explore the educational use of social networking sites. Join us in person for each interactive hands-on workshop or choose to attend online and view the live presentation followed by an online discussion. Each session will be recorded and archived for later viewing.

Introduction To Social Networking
This workshop will focus in the emergence of online social networking web sites and their potential applications in education. We will explore the uses and benefits of social networking to enhance classroom instruction, and you will have the opportunity to create your own social networking site.

Tweeting With Twitter
This workshop will explore the use of the popular social networking web site Twitter and its value as a teaching resource. We will start by examining the purpose of this microblogging tool and discuss how Twitter can be integrated into your curriculum to encourage student involvement and to foster online learning communities. The hands-on workshop component will provide you with the opportunity to get started by creating a Twitter account and sending your own “tweets.”

An Education In Second Life
Join us for an overview of how the virtual world of Second Life is being used by educators across the world. We will examine the platform of Second Life and discuss how Second Life can be integrated into teaching. The hands-on component will allow you the opportunity to view TWU in Second Life and see some of the existing projects by TWU faculty and organizations.
