The online application for requesting a Spring, 2010 student teaching placement is now closed.  Please check back at this site in mid-to-late January for instructions on requesting a Fall, 2010 student teaching placement.

Student Teaching Placement

The Professional Development Center is here to facilitate your student teaching placement. The districts have asked that all of the TWU placements go through our office to ensure that proper procedures are followed. Do not try to secure your student teaching placement by contacting teachers, principals, or superintendents. Please help us honor the districts’ requests.

Student Teacher Enrollment Meetings

Students seeking a spring student teaching placement must attend one of the September Student Teaching Enrollment Meetings and submit the required student teaching application and paper work by the September deadline. The spring deadline is the last business day in September. Students seeking a fall student teaching placement must attend one of the February Student Teaching Enrollment Meetings and submit the required student teaching application and paper work by the February deadline. The fall deadline is the last business day in February.

Each student must attend one of the Student Teaching Enrollment Meetings prior to submitting an online student teaching application. A copy of the online student teaching application, signed by both the student and the student’s TWU faculty advisor, along with additional paper work (discussed at the enrollment meetings) must be completed and submitted in person to Judy Franz, College of Professional Education, Stoddard Hall Room 202, or mailed to Mrs. Franz at P.O. Box 425769, Denton, TX 76204-5769 by the semester’s deadline.

Submitting the Independent School District (ISD) criminal background authorization forms is considered part of the student teaching application process. Details will be discussed during the Student Teaching Enrollment Meetings held in September and February.

Several school districts require TB test clearances. The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District requires TB test clearance prior to all of their placements. The test may not be more than one year old from the first day of student teaching. Denton ISD students who have immigrated to the United States are asked to provide proof of TB clearance issued from a physician licensed by the state of Texas. Students may go to their personal physician or a health clinic of their choice. The TWU Student Health Services also provides this test for a nominal fee. Documentation of the TB test must be submitted to Judy Franz, Stoddard Hall Room 202 by the student teaching deadline.

Please read and follow the application instructions carefully.  Incomplete applications will not be processed.
