Professional Interests:

My research interests include motor control and motor adaptation of human locomotion, acute and chronic neuromuscular plasticity associated with skill acquisition, and effects of aging on sensorimotor integration for postural control and gait. I am particularly interested in understanding the involvement of cortical and spinal circuits in movement control when responding to unexpected force perturbation or altered visual feedback. Studies of human movement control range from healthy individuals to those with neurological disorders.

My research project, “Comparison of Motor Skill Acquisition between Stroke Survivors and Healthy Individuals” was recently awarded by the TWU Research Enhancement Program New Investigator Competition. Stroke survivors frequently show persistent gait deficits in their chronic stages even after years of intensive rehabilitation. This may be caused by diminished capability of re-acquiring motor skills post stroke. Thus, the overall purpose of this research project is to examine stroke survivors’ capability of learning a novel leg task.
