Post-professional Education for the Physical Therapist

The School of Physical Therapy at Texas Woman's University is a pioneer in graduate education for the physical therapist.  Among the nation's leading providers of health care professionals, TWU has one of the largest programs in physical therapy in the United States.

The School offers a post-professional transitional doctor of physical therapy (tDPT) and a doctor of philosophy (PhD) in physical therapy.  TWU was the 4th institution in the country that began offering the PhD in Physical Therapy.  Since 1986, over 45 graduates have completed their PhD in our program and have become leaders in research, education and clinical training all over the world.

Our Philosophy

Texas Woman's University School of Physical Therapy offers the tDPT and Ph.D. degrees for physical therapists. The purpose of these programs is to prepare qualified physical therapists to assume leadership roles in research, clinical practice and education. Program objectives include facilitating the discovery and dissemination of new knowledge, as well as specialized skill acquisition.  TWU acknowledges the changing role of physical therapy in society and views graduate education as vital to further the development of the profession.
