How many hours of volunteer service do I need for the DPT Program?

We recommend that you have a minimum of 20 hours of observational/volunteer/work experience with two different patient populations at two different clinics under two different therapists (minimum 40 total hours). The therapists then complete an Applicant Recommendation Form. However, you are encouraged to pursue additional volunteer or work hours in physical therapy settings, since this minimum requirement may not provide you with a comprehensive view of the PT profession nor may it provide an adequate time frame for you to receive a strongly positive recommendation from your supervising therapist. Additional observation hours provide applicants with a better perspective on PT practice and may allow for the development of a more insightful letter of interest.
