The University’s definition of “official business” includes the formal presentation of original research by an employee, if before a national, international, regional or state learned society. Attendance and/or participation in the proceedings of the meeting of a learned society is considered official business so long as the context of the meeting is directly related to the current job recognition; social functions are not considered official business.
State law specifies that travel expenses may be reimbursed only when the purpose of travel is clearly for the conduct of the State’s official business and in consonance with the legal responsibilities of the agency of the state represented.
