Variables Considered in Selection Process

Applicants to the Master of Occupational Therapy program must have a Baccalaureate Degree or be within one semester of completion.

Admission to the program is competitive and selective. The following variables are considered by the selection committee:

  1. Overall Grade Point Average: the last 60 undergraduate hours or graduate hours if 15 or more hours completed. In either case, the calculated GPA must be minimum of 3.0 on 4.0 scale to apply.

  2. Prerequisite Grade Point Average: cumulative prerequisite GPA must be a minimum of 3.0 on 4.0 scale to apply.

    • Although the student may apply before prerequisites are completed, final acceptance will be deferred until the student provides official documentation of course completion and grades.

    • Greater weighting will be given to those students who have satisfied all prerequisites.

    • Exception: The neuroanatomy and neurophysiology prerequisite may be taken concurrently with occupational therapy courses during the student's first semester of acceptance.

  3. Recommendation Form completed by the OTR who supervised applicant's 20 hours of contact in a treatment setting. The 20 observation hours should be with one OTR.

  4. Interview & demonstration of reading comprehension/writing skill: top 60 applicants at each campus only.

  5. International students for whom English is not their country's primary language must have minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL.

Selection and Notification Process

  1. Application deadline for the MOT program is October 15 for admission the following August.  The Occupational Therapy Admissions Committee meets as soon as possible after the deadline to review each complete application. Applicants are notified if they meet the basic requirements and are in the top 60 and invited for an interview (approx. 4 weeks notice) or, they are invited to reapply. Interviews will be conducted the first Friday in December following the application deadline.

  2. Interviewing applicants are scheduled for a morning or afternoon on campus interview/reading/writing demonstration.

    • Once selections from the interviewees have been made, the School of Occupational Therapy sends notice to the Graduate College indicating whether or not an applicant has been recommended for acceptance.

    • An official acceptance letter from the Dean of the Graduate School is mailed  approximately 2-3 weeks after recommendation by the School of Occupational Therapy, and completion of the Graduate School admission requirements.

  3. It is our policy that an applicant who is not recommended for acceptance, fails to enroll, or does not meet deferred criteria for final acceptance for the semester accepted, must reapply for subsequent attendance.
