TWU is now offering
a practice specialty certification in school-based
practice. These 12 credit
hours of course work are taught in spring,
summer, fall courses.
Two Required
Courses
1. Best
Practice in School-Based Therapy (3 credit hours) Available in Spring!
This course
concerns evaluation, intervention, and service delivery in
school environments from an evidence based practice perspective.
Students in this course learn the principles of evidence based
education and how to answer evidence questions using the
literature and within their own daily practice. Course
content includes review and critique of assessment tools, how to
apply evidence based practice to school related questions,
exercises in interpersonal skills and an exploration of service
delivery options.
2. Using
IDEA to Empower Your Practice (3 credit hours)
Available in Fall!
An intense exploration of IDEA 2004 and related legislation.
Within this course students learn how to answer questions
concerning the law using internet resources. This course is
designed to develop adaptability to changing policies by
learning how to locate and interpret original legislation
and related documents.

One Individual
Project
Best School-based Practice Applied (3 credit hours)
Offered Fall and Spring semesters
Completion of a project within the public school setting that
either adds to the body of knowledge concerning school based
practice, expands school based practice, or clarifies and
strengthens current school based practice arenas. Projects will be individually designed with the collaborative
assistance of TWU faculty and an on-site mentor identified by
the student.
**May
be taken any semester after completion of the required courses
in the certificate.
