completed her MOT degree in the School of Occupational Therapy. Ms. McClung returned to her alma mater as Clinical Instructor in 1997 and again as an Assistant Associate Professor in December 2001. Her contributions to the field of occupational therapy were in the areas of theory and of serving the elderly. Ms. McClung was co-author with her beloved friend and mentor Dr. Janette Schkade, of the book Occupational Adaptation in Practice: Concepts and Cases, a ground breaking work that translated the Occupational Adaptation frame of reference into familiar and daily scenarios for practitioners. Ms. McClung maintained a clinical practice throughout her academic career at nursing and rehabilitation centers. She was instrumental in forming the service learning group Stepping Stones, an occupation-based intervention for persons with Alzhiemer's with her colleague and friend Dr. Diane Brown. Her most recent work concerned fitness and exercise for seniors for which she was completing a project for the North Central Texas Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging.
Melissa McClung is remembered by students from 12 years of teaching as an enthusistic instructor who brought high expectations to the classroom. Her colleagues recall a bright and energetic peer who was consistently supportive and of quck intellect. The TWU community mourns her passing. In remembrance of her life with us a memorial bench will be placed at the foot of the Multi-purpose Classroom Building where Ms. McClung taught.
