F-1 Transfers

School Transfer Procedure for F-1 Students

  1. Student is admitted to the new school.
  2. Student informs the International Student Advisor at the school the student is currently attending of his/her intent to transfer.
  3. Current school provides a "clearance letter for transfer" to the student or new school, or completes the form as provided by the new school.
  4. Student must enroll in the new school in the first term after leaving the former school or the first term after annual vacation.
  5. Within 15 days of registration at the new school, student must complete the following with the Foreign Student Advisor at the new school:
  6. Sign item 11 on the SEVIS I-20 issued by the new school.
  7. Present a copy of the previous school's SEVIS I-20
  8. Provide letter of clearance for transfer from the former school.
  9. Foreign Student Advisor at the new school will then complete the following:
  10. Type in the student's BCIS Admission number (from I-94 card) on the SEVIS I-20.
  11. Issue new SEVIS I-20 to student.
