Purpose
The purpose of the Multicultural Student Network is to heighten diversity/cultural awareness and sensitivity within the Texas Woman’s University community. Representatives will become student diversity educators and will provide diversity education and training to the Texas Woman’s University community. MSN will plan and implement cultural celebrations, activities and events for educational purposes. MSN will also serve as the student advisory board for the Office of Intercultural Services and serve as liaisons of the office to multicultural organizations where they can express their ideas, concerns and suggestions.
Program Description
Formally known as just the Multicultural Student Network (MSN), the MSN Representative positions have been created to allow for a more formalized approach to cultural programming sponsored by OIS. Five (5) energetic student leaders are chosen to represent various cultural communities (i.e. African American, Hispanic, Asian, European, LGBT, etc) and serve as advocates for these communities and diversity education. They are responsible for programming, peer advising, office assistance, diversity education, and serving as a representative of OIS, Student Life, and TWU.
Minimum Requirements:
Full-time student
At least sophomore status at TWU
Ability to work 10-15 hours a week
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
Primary Responsibilities:
Participate in the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of OIS programs
Serve as an advocate for all cultural groups represented at TWU
Serve as a liaison to various multicultural student organizations at TWU
Assist in the functioning of OIS daily operations and responsibilities
Act as a representative of OIS, Student Life, and TWU
Be available for peer support
