Faculty and Staff Services

The Counseling Center staff knows how important faculty and staff are to the well-being of TWU students. Working together, we can provide the best possible experience for students.

Information for Faculty and Staff Regarding Concerns About Student Behavior - There are many legal, ethical, as well as pragmatic, issues to consider when having concerns about a student's behavior. We offer you information about these issues by clicking here.

Considerations for Requiring Self-Exploration and Self-Disclosure in Coursework - Self-exploration and self-disclosure exercises in curriculum can produce unique and dramatic difficulties for students. You can learn more about these issues by clicking here.

Tips for Dealing with Distressed Students - Faculty and staff are often the first to see that a student is having difficulties. We offer you information about dealing with difficult or distressed students by clicking here.

Outreach Services - We can arrange with you to come to your class or student group and present information on a variety of psychologically-related topics including interpersonal, relationship and academic skills. To find more detailed information about how to arrange a program, click here.

Consultation Services - We are happy to talk with individual faculty or staff about difficulties with a single student or group of students. We also talk with faculty or staff groups. We have consulted with a number of departments on campus to help with difficult issues that impact students and about student difficulties that may impact the learning environment. You may contact any of our staff you may know to begin the consultation process. If you are unsure of who to contact, you may contact the director, Don Rosen, to begin the process.

On-line Workshops - On-line workshops are PowerPoint presentations that we make available to students, faculty and staff. In most cases, these would be the same presentations we would make in person. You can view the range of on-line workshops by clicking here.

Self-Screening Instruments - We offer students the opportunity to screen themselves anonymously on-line for: anxiety, depression, alcohol difficulties and eating disorders through a program developed by MentalHealthScreening.org. This is a national non-profit group. Students may take any or all screening instruments and then be referred back to the TWU Counseling Center web site for more information about campus services. You may see more information about these screening instruments by clicking here.

Self-Help Materials - The Counseling Center produces a number of handouts on a variety of topics for students to use. These are available at every Counseling Center office and in a carousel near the student organization mailboxes in the Student Center in Denton. Many of these handouts are available on-line. Click here (link to self-help) to view the list of handouts available on the web. In addition, we provide links to a website that keeps track of handouts from university counseling centers across the country (click here) (link to Virtual Help) as well as to the American Psychological Association Help Center (click here).

Other Services - We have associated our Counseling Center with two nationally recognized college student help web sites: CampusBlues.com and Ulifeline.org. Both provide information and resources to college students who struggle with a variety of issues. Students may also choose to be directed from each of those sites back to the TWU Counseling Center web pages.
