Why Study Abroad? FAQ Session
Q: What are the benefits?
A: Aside from the exciting new perspectives that you will gain about yourself and your culture, you will make new friends, and see places you only heard about before. Your study abroad experience can also considerably help you toward career development in today's global job market. Being able to include study abroad on both your resume and transcript will put you in a much more favorable position of receiving a job than those without the experience. Studying abroad sends the sign to employers that you are ready for an adventure, and that you embrace challenges and new opportunities.

TWU has study abroad programs that offer Spanish, French and Chinese language studies; however, through affiliated programs there is the opportunity to learn other languages. In general, most of the TWU study abroad programs are taught in English.
Q: What is it like to be an international student?
A: Living in a foreign country can be a life enhancing, if not changing, experience. While the idea of leaving home for a period of time may be quite daunting, the experiences and knowledge gained while abroad will most assuredly be well worth the effort. To speak with a person with first hand experience, you can just ask around campus! TWU hosts 170-180 international students from countries all over the world. Or you can talk to the professors or students who have been abroad! You can also visit the International Education Office.
Q: All right. I like the idea. What should I do?
A: First, come by the International Education Office to obtain instructions on how to proceed. We will provide forms to assist you, and guidance on what program might be the best for your current and future interests. Be sure to allow plenty of time for the entire process, like booking the cheapest plane ticket, obtaining a passport, and several other items. We also recommend that you obtain the TWU International Education Fee Scholarship form, and check out other financial resources available through various agencies and foundations. |
