Graduate Admissions

Please read the following information carefully. To apply online, use the Texas Common Application. Individual TWU colleges, schools and programs have different application deadlines, link to the TWU Graduate School page for these dates.

Requirements for Graduate Admission

1. Submission of Foreign Transcript
All foreign transcripts or marksheets must bear the official seal and/or original signatures of school authorities from the issuing school. Transcripts must show a current issue date and be sent directly from the school. Photocopies or copies attested by non-school authorities will not be considered official.

Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by TWU's Foreign Transcript Evaluator. Students must apply and submit all necessary admission documents and foreign transcripts from the high school or university overseas (in the official language of instruction and in English) to TWU. Graduate Admissions requires both the foreign credential evaluation and the official transcript (issued in English) for all Master’s and Ph.D. applicants. Students must have a 3.0 ("B" average) on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work and on all previous graduate coursework.

TWU will only provide in-house transcript evaluation for students who have submitted an application, all original foreign transcripts, and application fee. Student must apply and submit all necessary documents first before evaluation will take place. The evaluation process will take less than two weeks.


2. Submission of Test Scores
All test scores and results must be sent directly from the testing agency to Texas Woman’s University. TWU’s institution code is 6826.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE), GMAT or the MAT
The GRE, GMAT or the MAT maybe required prior to admission to some graduate degree programs at TWU. Please see up-to-date individual program requirement on TWU website at www.twu.edu/admissions/graduate/degreereq.htm or in the Graduate Catalog. You may also consult the department which houses your academic major for specific GRE requirements.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
All international students, including transfers and permanent resident aliens, must present an acceptable TOEFL scores of 550 (213 computer base) or above, or a verbal score of 500 or above on the GRE or a GMAT equivalent to the 50th percentile.

    All international students, including transfers and resident aliens, must present an acceptance Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 (213 computer base) or above, or a verbal score of 500 or above on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), or a GMAT equivalent to 50th percentile. These scores must be presented to the Office of Enrollment Management by the official deadlines publishes. (An acceptance Test of Spoken English, TSE, score is required of international students applying for graduate teaching assistantships. Certain academic programs may also require TSE of all applicants.) The following exceptions apply to the TOEFL requirement:

    • Students from countries where English is the primary language of instruction and is the language spoken at home and by the indigenous population.
    • Students who have earned a degree from an accredited United States college or university.
    • Students who are recommended by the Department Chair or Dean for provisional admission because of excellent academic credentials and a minimum TOEFL score of 500 (213 computer base). These students will be required to complete with a grade of B or better specific courses in intensive English (6-9 credit hours) for academic credit during their first year at the University. If they are unsuccessful they must fulfill the standard TOEFL requirement for admission or withdraw from the University.

Application deadlines for all F-1 and J-1 applicants are April 1 for the fall semester; August 1 for the spring semester; and January 1 for any summer session. To determine status for tuition purposes, immigrants and permanent residents must submit proof of status by completing the Residency Questionnaire. (See Residency.) All F-1 and J-1 students are required to have medical and hospital insurance. (See Health Services.)
