Admissions Applications Checklist

International Application Fee

All international applicants must pay a non-refundable international application fee of fifty dollars ($50 USD). Payment should be made in the form of a credit card, cashier's check, postal money order, or bank draft in U.S. dollars. Personal checks drawn from a U.S. bank may be sent and made payable to TWU Admissions. The $50 fee must accompany the application for admission to avoid a delay in application processing. Fees must be sent in American currency, made out to Texas Woman's University in the amount of $50 USD.

TOEFL Scores

Test of English as a Foreign Language scores are required for all international students. The required TOEFL score is 550. Students may be accepted provisionally with a minimum score of 500 (at the recommendation of the department chair), but will be required to take 6 hours of English for International Speakers during both the Fall and Spring semesters, or present a score of 550 or higher. THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS APPLY TO THE TOEFL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Students who have earned a diploma from an accredited United States High School or a degree from an accredited United States college or university
  2. Students who have completed English 1013 or 1023 (Freshman Composition)
  3. Students who have completed Level 6 at the University of North Texas' Intensive English Language Institute
  4. Students who have successfully completed Texas International Education Consortium (TIEPs) advanced-level program as defined in the information provided by TIEP and who are seeking admission to our campus
  5. Students who are citizens of Australia, New Zealand, the British Virgin Island, Jamaica, United Kingdom, Ireland, Antigua, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, St. Lucia, Wales, Bahamas, Barbados, and Canada, excluding French-speaking Quebec.

If you qualify under the above exceptions, please complete the TOEFL Exemption Form (Undergraduate or Graduate) and send it to the International Education Office.

Official Transcripts

Coursework completed in the United States:
You must submit official copies of all transcripts to the Office of Student Records at TWU. Faxed copies and unofficial copies are not acceptable.

Coursework completed outside the United States:
Undergraduate Admissions: Students must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 ("C" average) on a 4.0 scale for acceptance to Undergraduate Admissions at TWU. Freshman students who have taken the General Secondary Education Certificate, the West African School Certificate, or the Kenya Certificate of Education must present a minimum of 5 passes at grade "C" or higher. Certain TWU departments have specific departmental GPA requirements above a 2.0. To apply for undergraduate admissions, you must send your official transcripts from the high school or university overseas (both in the official language of instruction and in English) to the Office of Student Records Processing at:

Graduate Admissions: All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by TWU's Foreign Transcript Evaluator (See details below about TWU's In-House Transcript Evaluation). Graduate Admissions requires both the foreign credential evaluation and the official transcript (issued in English) for all Master's and Ph.D. applicants. Students must have a 3.0 ("B"; average) on a 4.0 scale, on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work and on all previous graduate coursework. If you are a graduate applicant, the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) maybe required prior to admission to your graduate degree program at TWU. Please see up-to-date individual requirement on TWU website at www.twu.edu or in the Graduate Catalog. TWU's Foreign Transcript Evaluation:
Texas Woman's University provides a free in-house evaluation of foreign transcripts. Students must apply and submit all necessary admission documents and foreign transcripts from the high school or university overseas (in the official language of instruction and in English) to TWU. The evaluation process will take approximately two weeks or less. You will need to apply and submit application, application fee, transcripts, and other admission documents early!! THEA Test

If you are entering TWU as an undergraduate student and have not taken the THEA test, you must do so before you register. This requirement is a Texas state law and it applies to all students, both international and United States citizens who study at Texas state colleges and universities. The THEA test is not needed for admission to Texas Woman's University, but it will be required before you are allowed to register for classes. If you have any question regarding THEA, please contact the Office of Academic Advising.

Financial Statement

If you are applying as an F-1 or J-1 student, immigration regulations require you to provide proof of financial support during your studies in the U.S. Current costs for tuition, fees, room, board, health insurance, living expenses, and books are $20,490 a year for Undergraduate students and $18,845 for Graduate students. [This figure is based on 12 undergraduate hours and 9 graduate hours]. All F-1 and J-1students are required to maintain full-time status (12 hours per semester for Undergraduates and 9 hours per semester for Graduate students). Tuition and fees are subject to change and do not include optional summer enrollment. We will not accept the Financial Statement if it has "white-out" on it. All bank statements should be in U.S. dollars. The Financial Statement must be the original copy and cannot contain any "corrections". Please go to Applying as F-1 Student Section.

PLEASE NOTE: The SEVIS I-20 cannot be sent to you until you have been admitted to Texas Woman's University. If you are accepted to TWU, and the International Education Office verifies and approves your immigration documents, we will send you the Form.
