I don't know what I want to major in - is there someplace to get help?
Absolutely! Our career counselor can help you find the general area of the world of work hat's the best fit for you, then the career counselor will help you research some of your career options.
I like this area of study, but what careers relate to it?
There are lots of possibilities! To see sample careers related to majors, check out "What can I do with this major?" handouts in the career library, located in the human development building, suite 200 and online at www.twu.edu/o-cs/ccmajors.htm.
Is it possible to use my current job as an internship/co-op experience to gain academic credit?
Yes. If you are working in a position related to your major or career interest, you may be able to participate in the Internship/Cooperative Education Program.
You will need to receive approval from you Faculty Advisor. After receiving approval, you will need to schedule an appointment with the Internship/Co-op Coordinator, located in Career Services, Human Development Building (HDB) suite 200.
What steps do I need to take if I don't currently have a job to use as my internship?
Schedule an appointment with the Internship/Cooperative Education Coordinator, located in Career Services, Human Development Building (HDB) suite 200. The coordinator will evaluate your resume, and will discuss your career goals with you. Together, you and the coordinator will work out an individual plan of action. Specific positions available will be discussed at this time.
If there are no available positions at the time of your appointment, the coordinator will give you resources to begin your internship search. Remember, the coordinator is there to assist you, however this is your time to experience a professional job search including preparing a resume, cover letter and establishing great communication/interviewing skills.
Prior to graduation, how soon should I begin my job search?
At the beginning of your Senior year or at least 6 - 9 months in advance. To get started, you should schedule an appointment with the Career Services Department located in the Human Development Building, Suite 200.
Are job search services available for Alumni?
Yes, Career Services are provided for Alumni, including job search assistance. There is a small fee for some services. Please call the Career Services Department at 940-898-2950 to schedule an appointment.
What is the difference between work-study jobs and non work-study jobs?
College work-study is a Federal and State program that permits undergraduate and graduate students to earn up to $5,760 annually based on their documented financial need. To qualify for work-study jobs, you must be awarded this type of financial aid and enrolled in classes at TWU. This program is awarded through the Financial Aid office and applications can be accessed on the Internet at www.twu.edu/finaid/ .
Non-work study jobs are for any student enrolled in classes at TWU and who does not receive any financial aid from the Federal and State program or who has not been awarded work-study funds through the program.
As a student worker, when do I get paid?
On the 1 st working day of the month.
How do I find a job on-campus or off-campus?
Listings of on-campus and off-campus positions are available through the Career Services Department.
You may view these positions by visiting our office located in the Human Development Building, Suite 200, and on our website, www.twu.edu/o-cs . By calling our Job Hotline at (940) 898-2941 students can access the listings of jobs that are off-campus. Students on the Dallas campus may call (214) 689-6635 and students on the Houston campus may call (713) 794-2703 to access the listings.
Effective January 2005, the Job Hotline will be discontinued. All on-and off-campus jobs will be posted in the Career Services office and on the website.
