Photo of Leon Ernesto García de León
Composer Ernesto García de León has been commissioned to produce a composition for the 2008 Latino Dance and Music Festival. It will receive a double premiere, first as a concert piece and then as a choreographed dance. Mr. de León teaches guitar and composition at the Music School of the National Fine Arts Institute in Mexico City. He studied guitar at the National Music Conservatory (of the Autonomous University of Mexico) and received high marks with distinction at the Royal Academy of Music. He has performed and presented master classes throughout the United States, Latin America and Europe. His music is published by Michael Lorimer Editions (New York).

Antonio López
Antonio López began his studies at the Conservatorio Nacional in Mexico City and played his first concert at the Palace of Fine Arts at the age of 17. He has performed and recorded the complete guitar works of Manuel M. Ponce through a grant from the Mexican National Fund for Arts and Culture (FONCA). Mr. López performs internationally and is a frequent guest at guitar festivals in places such as San Jose, Costa Rica; Cordoba, Spain; and Los Angeles, California. In October 2007 he was invited to participate in the Guitarras del Mundo in Argentina, the largest guitar festival in the world.

Carlo Pezzimenti
Carlo Pezzimenti is the director of the guitar programs at Texas Woman’s University and Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas. He has given concerts around the world, and to date has released 17 recordings. His latest CD, De la Noche (on the Vadan label), features the music of Ernesto García de León and Manuel Ponce. His work has been reviewed by many publications including Gramophone Magazine and the New York Times, which stated, “In his hands the music made its effect with reserved eloquence.”

Overview of Music Activities
• Master classes with Ernesto García de León and Antonio López
• Day and evening public concerts featuring all guest artists and covering a wide range of repertoire as well as featuring a number of compositions of Ernesto García de León
• Lectures and discussions including a lecture recital on the Spanish Renaissance and its influence on the Americas (presented by Enrique Madriguera) and a round table discussion, Aesthetics of Guitar Performance in the 21st Century.
