General Information

Reading Recovery Institute
The Reading Recovery® Institute is designed for trained and in-training Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura teachers, teacher leaders, and trainers only. The purpose is to provide in-depth study of issues related to Reading Recovery teaching and training.

Developed by New Zealand educator Dr. Marie M. Clay, Reading Recovery is a short-term intervention for children at risk of failing to learn to read and write in the first grade. Children meet daily in a one-to-one session with a specially trained teacher.

The goal of the intervention is for children to develop effective reading and writing strategies that will enable them to make accelerated progress and to work successfully within an average classroom setting. The key to the successful implementation of Reading Recovery resides in the multitiered training model. Reading Recovery links universities and schools in a collaborative venture to help children while providing a dynamic and unique staff development model

Early Literacy Institute
The Early Literacy Institute is designed for all persons interested in early literacy and intervention programs for children who find the path to literacy difficult — classroom teachers, literacy coaches, administrators, Reading Recovery teachers and teacher leaders, school support personnel, university faculty and students, parents, policy makers, and community members. Presenters will be recognized early literacy leaders as well as classroom teachers, administrators, and other educators who will share their experience and expertise. Because Reading Recovery teachers have other professional roles, they are encouraged to attend both institutes if possible.

Administrators Institute
The institute for administrators is designed to support early literacy, early literacy intervention, and the implementation of Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura in schools and systems. The quality of implementation is essential to a program’s success, and administrators are the critical factor in quality implementation. The Administrators Institute will feature sessions for school-level administrators as well as central-level administrators.
