Assessment Skills for the RN
August 11 - 13, 2008
"Assessment Skills for the RN" will be taught by Judy Johnson-Russell and Barbara Gray. The purpose of this course is to build on the RN's knowledge and skills in physical assessment techniques to enable them to perform systematic physical assessments in a time-efficient manner in clinical practice. A systematic approach is utilized to assess health status of the adult client. Interpretation of findings will be discussed. Participants will practice assessment skills in each session of the course, and will complete an integrated assessment at the end of the course. Completion of this course and the integrated assessment will fulfill the requirements of the integrated check-off required in TWU's graduate nursing course N5644 Advanced Physical Assessment and Differential Diagnosis (TWU Dallas campus only). The course will be offered from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm in room 109 of the Dallas Parkland Campus. All equipment will be furnished, however students will need to purchase Bickley, L.S. (2004). Bates' pocket guide to physical examination and history taking (5th ed.) Philadelphia: Lippincott. ISBN: 07817-3818-0. The pocket guide is a required textbook for N5644.
