Classes Offered Schedule of Classes Department of Dance

Texas Woman's University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Dance.

What is the Community Dance Center at TWU?
The Community Dance Center at TWU offers affordable dance classes for all ages and abilities. The Dance Center is directed and supervised by a full-time faculty member in the Department of Dance. TWU, through its highly respected Department of Dance, has been offering dance classes to the Denton Community for more than 30 years.

Classes are designed for individuals who wish to:
• expand their knowledge of dance.
• improve their skills.
• simply have fun moving.

Classes are offered in a variety of dance forms and taught at the level of the students enrolled. Some classes are offered for six week sessions and others for ten weeks. There are no recitals, but parents are invited to observe their child's progress on the fifth class day and invite family and friends to an informal presentations on the last class day.

Who are the Dance Instructors?
Community Dance instructors are TWU dance faculty and dance major students who perform with the university’s dance companies and have acquired a solid background in dance theory and technique.

The instructors are:
• skilled and knowledgeable in dance technique.
• competent and enthusiastic.
• concerned about each student’s growth and development, especially in regard to bone development and function of the feet and back.

About the Director of the Community Dance Center
Gladys M. Keeton, professor of dance at Texas Woman’s University, has been director of the TWU Community Dance Center for over thirty years. She is active in promoting and providing dance in the Denton community and schools as well as throughout Texas. Gladys has received University Dance Educator awards in the state and southern district.


Where are the Studios?

The dance studios are located on the TWU Denton Campus in the Dance Building (on the corner of Bell Avenue and Administration Drive). The dance studios are air conditioned and fully mirrored with resilient wood flooring.

Where do I Park?
Parking passes will be distributed the first night of your class. Parking is available in the visitor parking lot across from the Dance Building.

What Should I Wear?
Shorts, bodysuits or leotards with no shoes or socks are required for Creative/Movement dance classes. Any color leotard, tights, and ballet shoes are required for the Ballet classes. Jazz or tennis shoes are needed for the jazz classes and tap shoes are needed for the tap classes. Information about shoes for other classes will be provided the first day of class. A mat is needed for the pilates conditioning class.

Payment/Refund Policy
Tuition is payable in advance of the first class day (see schedule for price information). After January 18, add $5 to the dance class fee. Registrants who find it necessary to cancel will receive a refund, less a $10 processing fee. To receive a refund, you must submit written notification seven days prior to the event start date. Refunds will not be issued once the program begins. Substitutions may be made at any time. The Office of Lifelong Learning reserves the right to cancel this event if sufficient enrollment is not met. In doing so, Texas Woman’s University’s liability is limited to the registration fee.
