NFS PhD Graduate Appointed in Washington DC

Dr Anne UtechTWU NFS graduate Anne Utech, PhD, has been appointed Deputy Director of Nutrition and Food Service for the Veterans Healthcare Administration in the VA Central Office in Washington DC. Dr Utech stated, "I look forward to serving our nation's veterans in support of their healthy living choices and medical nutrition therapy needs." She graduated with her PhD in Nutrition from TWU in 2012 after receiving her MS in Nutrition from TWU in 2005. Since 2010, Anne has worked as the Health Promotion Disease Prevention Manager for Houston VAMC where she has assisted over 122,000 veterans.

NFS Faculty Named ISNN Board Member

Dr Chandan PrasadIn November 2011, Dr Chandan Prasad, Interim Assistant Profost for Promotion of Research and Sponsored Programs and NFS faculty member, was unanimously elected to serve as a Board Member of the International Society of Nutrigenetics/Nutrigenomics (ISNN) effective January 2013. The purpose of the society is "to increase understanding through research and education of professionals and the general public of the role of genetic variation and dietary response and the role of nutrients in gene expression."

 

NFS Graduate Receives Academy Medallion Award

Neva CochranNeva Hudiburgh Cochran, MS, RD/LD, was awarded the prestigious Medallion Award at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) national meeting in Philadelphia, PA.  Neva has been an Academy member since 1975 and for more than 20 years has been a nutrition communications consultant and spokesperson for corporations, trade associations, and a contributing writer for various media outlets. Her wide-ranging service to AND includes serving on the Board of Directors, Nominating Committee, Finance Committee, and in the House of Delegates. She chaired of the Academy Foundation's Board of Directors and was an AND media spokesperson for seven years. Ms Cochran is a founding member of AND's Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group and served in leadership positions in AND's Texas and Dallas affiliate associations, including service as president. She earned her MS in Nutrition from TWU and was employed as a nutrition instructor in the department.  Currently, she serves the department as a preceptor in the NFS Dietetic Internship program and on their Advisory Committee.
