Master’s Admission
For unconditional admission, applicants must present:
- Official transcripts that show evidence of prerequisite courses and at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 undergraduate hours.
- Evidence of completing the Graduate Record Examination with a preferred minimum score of 350 on the verbal portion and 450 on the quantitative portion.
- A 1-2 page resume providing evidence of work and volunteer experience related to intended field of study.
Applicants who meet the above criteria with exception of GPA may qualify for provisional admission if they have at least a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale) on the last 60 undergraduate hours.
Applicants who meet all other requirements but lack up to 6 credit hours of prerequisite undergraduate courses may be admitted provisionally to a masters program.

International Students:
Based upon Graduate Council recommendation, Dr McFarland has approved a change in criteria for admission of international graduate students. Effective with admission for the Fall 2011 semester, provisional admission based upon the need for English proficiency will no longer be allowed. Rather, all students for whom an English proficiency test is required must meet the following minimum criteria:
TOEFL (paper-based): Score of 550 or higher
TOEFL (computer-based): Score of 213 or higher
TOEFL iBT: Score of 79 or higher
MELAB: Score of 80 or higher
IELTS: Score of 6.5 or higher
GRE: Verbal score of 500 or higher
Exercise and Sports Nutrition Program Admission
Applicants must apply to and be accepted into the TWU Graduate School before they can be accepted into the Exercise and Sports Nutrition Program. For unconditional admission applicants must present each of the following:
- A B.S. degree in Kinesiology or Nutrition, or its equivalent.
- A GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework with a major in either Kinesiology or Nutrition.
- Evidence of completing the GRE with a preferred minimum score of 400 on the quantitative portion and 500 on the verbal portion and a combined score of at least a 1000.
- Official transcripts that provide evidence of prerequisites or the equivalent of undergraduate courses in exercise physiology (KINS 3601, 3602), exercise testing and prescription (KINS 4701, 4702), advanced exercise physiology (KINS 4601, 4602), human anatomy and physiology (ZOOL 2041, 2043, 2051, 2052), biochemistry (CHEM 3603), elementary nutrition (NFS 2323), advanced nutrition (NFS 3101, 3103), and one additional upper division three hour nutrition course (NFS 3163, for example).
- Two letters of recommendation and a 1-2 page statement of intent providing evidence of work and volunteer experience related to intended field of study and goals.
Applications must be submitted for review by February 15 for Fall admission and by October 15 for Spring admission.
Starting Dec. 1, 2008, all graduate admissions will be managed through G-Media.
The graduate school will receive all applications for admission to the ESN program. When student file is complete, the graduate school will inform the NFS department. The department will forward the application material to ESN Admission Committee. The ESN Admission Committee is chaired by Dr Nancy DiMarco. The Committee will send its recommendation through G-Media to Chair NFS for further processing and transmittal to graduate school.
Academic Advising
ESN Admission Committee may assign any member of the graduate faculty from NFS and Kinesiology to serve as academic advisor.
Theses and Professional Papers
The program will post a list of ESN faculty willing to serve as mentors for theses and professional papers. The faculty will come from both NFS and Kinesiology. The list of the faculty and their interest with respect to ESN will be posted on the website to enable students to choose appropriate mentor.
Doctoral Admission
For unconditional admission, applicants must present:
- Official transcripts that show evidence of prerequisite courses and at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 undergraduate hours and all post-baccalaureate and graduate hours.
- Evidence of completing the Graduate Record Examination with a preferred minimum score of 450 on the verbal portion and 550 on the quantitative portion.
- Two letters of reference
- A statement of purpose (1-2 pages) that includes reasons for undertaking graduate work, explanation of study and research interests, work experience, and professional goals.
Applicants who meet the above criteria with exception of GPA may qualify for provisional admission if they have at least a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale) on the last 60 undergraduate hours and all post-baccalaureate and graduate hours.
