Objectives:
- Improve skills in international nurses that may not be well developed in their country of employment (i.e. high technology, critical thinking, specialty programs, etc.).
- Prepare international nurse faculty to better educate nursing students in their country through new program design, advanced teaching methods, critical thinking strategies or new technologies.
- Assist international nurses to develop a research agenda and proposals to conduct studies in the country where they practice or in collaboration with TWU faculty.
- Expose international nurse educators to the US healthcare system and similarities/differences to their own healthcare system.
- Introduce the visiting nurse faculty to the role of professional nursing organizations in enhancing the autonomy of nursing.
- Share their international nursing expertise with TWU faculty.
This program is intended for nurses living outside the USA interested to develop advanced skills in research methods, teaching and advanced technologies.
Texas Woman’s University College of Nursing will work with international visiting nurse faculty by providing them with a faculty mentor. The visiting nurse faculty will work with the mentor on a set agenda based either on research development/improving teaching or clinical skills. Texas Woman’s University has faculty working in a variety of settings with many research interests. More than half of the faculty travel extensively overseas working and teaching to improve healthcare in other countries (either with faculty or nursing professionals). Costs of this program are dependent on specific visiting nurse faculty’s needs.
