Regents approve faculty promotions and tenure

The Texas Woman’s University Board of Regents today (June 2) approved promotions and tenure recommendations at its quarterly meeting at the TWU T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center. Regents also awarded emeritus status to retiring faculty and staff.

College of Arts and Sciences

Assistant professor Jessica Gullion, Ph.D., (sociology) was promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. Associate professors Kathy DeOrnellas, Ph.D., (psychology and philosophy), Camelia Maier, Ph.D., and Junalyn Navarra-Madsen, Ph.D. (mathematics) were promoted to professor. Assistant professor Graham (Gray) Scott, Ph.D. (English) was promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. In the School of the Arts, visual arts chair Vagner Whitehead was promoted to professor.

In the department of multicultural women’s and gender studies, assistant professors Agatha Beins, Ph.D., and Danielle Phillips-Cunningham, Ph.D., were promoted to associate professor and granted tenure.

College of Health Sciences

In the department of communication sciences and disorders, assistant professors Sarah Wainscott, Ph.D., and Junko Levitt, Ph.D., were promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. Assistant clinical professors Paula Chance and Melissa Stockholm were promoted to associate clinical professor. Assistant professor Mandy Golman, Ph.D., (health studies) was promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. In the School of Physical Therapy, assistant professor Linda Csiza, D.Sc., was promoted to associate professor and granted tenure, and associate professor Katy Mitchell, Ph.D., was promoted to professor. In the School of Occupational Therapy, associate professor Noralyn Pickens, Ph.D., was promoted to professor. Tina Fletcher, Ed.D., was granted tenure at the rank of associate professor. Assistant clinical professors Vicki Mason, D.HSc., and Mary Hennigan were promoted to associate clinical professor.

College of Nursing

Associate professor Wyona Freysteinson, Ph.D., was granted tenure. Assistant clinical professors Annie Abraham, Cynthia Bain, Barbara Baudler and Niki Fogg were promoted to associate clinical professor.

College of Professional Education

In the family sciences department, assistant professors Sarah Woods, Ph.D., and Pedro Blanco, Ph.D., were promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. Diane Myers, Ph.D., (chair, department of teacher education) was granted tenure at the rank of associate professor. In the School of Library and Information Studies, assistant professors Jennifer Moore, Ph.D., and Carol Perryman, Ph.D., were promoted to associate professor and granted tenure.

School of Management

Assistant professor Dewaynna Horn, Ph.D. (management) was promoted to associate professor and granted tenure. Associate professor Pamela Baker, Ph.D. (accounting) was promoted to professor.

Administration

New administrators were granted tenure. Mark Weber, Ph.D., joined the university June 1 as associate director and professor of physical therapy, Dallas. Alan Utter, Ph.D., will serve as provost and vice president of academic affairs and professor of kinesiology beginning July 1. Carolyn Kapinus, Ph.D., will join the university Aug. 1 as dean of the Graduate School and professor of sociology.

Emeritus

Regents awarded emeritus status to several retiring faculty and staff. William Bartlett, Ph.D., and Larry Petterborg, Ph.D., were named professors emeritus of physical therapy. Brenda Binder, Ph.D., and Donna Sauls, Ph.D., were named associate professors emerita of nursing. Deborah Buckingham was named associate clinical professor emerita of occupational therapy. Gayle Hersch, Ph.D., was named professor emerita of occupational therapy. Nancy Hadsell, Ph.D., was named professor emerita of music.

Elizabeth Pauley was named executive director emerita of public safety. Brenda Klingner was named coordinator emerita of university scheduling and curriculum management.
