The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is the story of an eclectic group of six mid-pubescent students vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was the winner of the Tony and Drama Desk awards for Best Book, written by Rachel Sheinkin and featuring a vibrant score by William Finn.

The cast for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee consists of Alandra Baptiste, Terrence Benard, Jake Defoore, Michelle Douglas, Long Ho, Piper Johnson, Kathryn McGinness, Blair Mitchell, Riley Jo Payne and Jade Terrell. The pit band members include TWU music students Katie McNaughton on cello, Sara May on clarinet, Annie Noga on woodwinds and Jonathan Dancer playing percussion. Assistant professor of music Kelley Poché-Rodriguez, Ph.D., will serve as pianist and musical director, and graduate student Misty Dawn Clark will provide the costume design. Associate professor Rhonda Gorman will provide the set design and Laura Mahon will provide the lighting design. Undergraduate students Elenor Tito and Patrick Bohmier will serve as the properties designer and sound designer, respectively. Amanda Hackleman will serve as the stage manager and Sydney Sandburg will serve as the assistant stage manager.
