Masako Narikawa is an active piano soloist, collaborative pianist and accompanist. Since her performance as a soloistwith the Pan-Asia Orchestra in Hong-Kong in 1987, Masako has performed in solo and chamber music recitals in Japan, Hong-Kong, Canada, United States, Poland, Holland, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. She was invited to the Brno International Music Festival in the Czech Republic to give solo and chamber music recitals throughout the country. Recently she has performed as a soloist with the Plovdiv State Philharmonic Orchestra, Bulgaria, and the Sherman Chamber Orchestra, Texas.
Ms. Narikawa’s playing has been described as “performance with a flash of brilliant instinct and passion” and “extreme sensitivity, colorfulness of tone, and freedom ofphrasing and articulation” (Musica Nova, Japan). She has received prizes in numerous national and international piano competitions, including the Gold prize at PTNA Young Pianists’ Competition (Japan), the first prize at Antonin Dvorak International Piano Competition and the special recognition award at Texas Steinway Society. Her teachers of piano include Satoko Tokumaru, Kiyoko Tanaka, Sawako Iwashita, Kum-Sing Lee, Eugene Skovorodnikov, and Adam Wodnicki. She was chosen also to participate in masterclasses with distinguished artists, such as Peter Lang, Halina Czerny-Stefanska, Jan Ekier, George Sebok, Germaine Mounier, Yvonne Loriod, and Mikhail Voskresensky.
Masako has served as a faculty of vocal accompanying and coaching at Southeastern Oklahoma State University and currently teaches piano, accompanying and vocal coaching at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
