The Texas Woman’s University Jazz Ensemble performs at a variety of venues across the campus.  The ensemble includes all standard jazz band instruments and vocalists. Audition date will be January 22nd from 6 pm to 8 pm. Please see the link below under "Sign up here" to schedule an audition.

Winds:
• Full Range Chromatic Scale (to show how high and low you can play)
• Play Groovin’ High in your proper key. Music on website.
• Improvise to F blues (2 choruses). Link on website.
• Sight read a small excerpt

Drums:
• Demonstrate the following "beats" in an imaginative manner:
Swing @ 92
Swing @ 220 Shuffle @ 132
Samba, half note @ 120
• Perform an extended free solo, utilizing the entire set to the
fullest capacity and including as many different musical styles as practical.
• Play drum set with the F blues track (2 choruses) Show how well you can accompany a soloist. Link on website.
• Sight-reading

Guitar/Piano:
• A selection from the student's previous jazz band repertoire that demonstrates comping.
• Play Groovin High to show off melodic ability. Comp with melody if you can.
• Sight read a small excerpt. Music on website.
• Improvise to F blues (2 choruses). Link on website.

Bass:
• Bassists should perform one tune from the student's previous jazz band repertoire. If students have ability, please demonstrate on both electric and upright bass. The part should include both "walking bass" lines and "written-out" melodic material.
• Sight read a small excerpt. Music on website.
• Improvise to F blues (2 choruses). Link on website.
