Dr. Nicki Cohen has been a member of the TWU music faculty since 1992. She teaches music therapy, applied voice, and world music courses. Her publications include chapters in music therapy textbooks and research articles in professional journals such as the Journal of Music Therapy, Music Therapy Perspectives, and the Journal of the Association for Music and Imagery. Her research topics include the effects of singing on speech production for persons with neurogenic communication disorders, issues concerning graduate music therapy education, and the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music.

Dr. Cohen is a regular presenter at professional conferences, has been invited to lecture on music therapy both in the United States and abroad, and has served as an external examiner for graduate theses from international universities. Her previous service contributions include Council Coordinator for the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Council on Education and Clinical Training, Chairperson of the AMTA Advisory Board for Education and Training, and President of the Association for Music and Imagery. Her vocal experience includes solo performances with the Academy in the Woods Orchestra, Denver, CO; the Central City Opera Company; the Colorado Children’s Chorale, Denver, CO; the Denver Symphony Orchestra; and the Nittany Valley Symphony, State College, PA.  Dr. Cohen is currently writing an introductory textbook on music therapy for Prentice Hall Publishers. She is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of the Association for Music and Imagery and serves on the AMTA Advisory Board for Education and Training. She is working towards achieving primary trainer status from the Association for Music and Imagery. Professor Cohen also serves on the faculty of the Anna Maria College Institute for Music and Imagery.
