Student Eligibility

Applications to the
program are accepted in the fall and spring semesters. Students who
demonstrate proficiency in research, as indicated in letters of
recommendation and a commitment to graduate work, are encouraged to apply. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Complete 40 or more credit hours
-
Have a cumulative
GPA of 3.0 or above

Qualify as: (a) a
first generation and low-income college student and/or (b) a student
whose ethnicity is considered underrepresented in graduate education as
defined by the U.S. Department of Education

Submit an
application packet including a copy of a 1040 IRS form, a statement of
eligibility, a Student Aid Report (SAR), available in Financial Aid, a
copy of all transcripts, two references from faculty members, and a
personal statement including goals for research and graduate study
-
Interview with the
Institutional McNair Program Council
-
Meet the following
requirements of citizenship:

Citizen or national of the United
States; or
-
Permanent resident of the United States;
or
-
In the United States for other than a
temporary purpose providing documentation from the Immigration and
Naturalization Service of his or her intent to become a permanent
resident; or
-
A resident of one of
the Freely Associated States
