Primary sources are first-hand documents, such as poems, diaries, autobiographies, etc...
Secondary sources are accounts written by people who were not at the scene. They are prepared based on the information contained in primary sources.

Do you need resources in a particular format? (e.g. photographs, maps, DVD, musical recordings, print materials, computer files, etc...
Scholarly Journals:
generally have a serious look with graphs and charts but few pages with splashy advertisements or pictures,
cite their sources in the form of footnotes or bibliographies,
are written by a scholar in the field or by someone who has done research in the field, (the author's name appears at the beginning or the end of the article)
are written in scholarly language using technical terms specific to a particular discipline,
are often (not always) published by a professional organization,
are "peer reviewed" or "refereed" by other scholars in that discipline.
