Organize Your Research

When analyzing your assignment, you will also want to consider the type and quantity of information you will need. Answering the following questions may help you organize your research:

• What kind of assignment do you have to complete? (e.g., 5 page paper, 10 minute oral presentation, thesis, etc...)

• How much and what kind of information do you need? (e.g., professor says you need 3 articles, 2 books, 1 encyclopedia and 3 interviews.)

• Does it matter if the information was published recently or long ago?

• Are you looking for an unbiased source? Do you need opinions? Is point of view relevant? For certain assignments you may need to find information from a variety of viewpoints.
