Find Information on the Internet |
Finding Internet documents can be easy or can seem impossibly difficult. This is partly due to the size of the Internet which is currently estimated to contain more than 3 billion documents. It is also because the Internet is not indexed in any standard vocabulary.
Most university libraries' online catalogs use standardized subject headings to identify which resources relate to particular topics. Most journals articles are indexed in print or electronic indexes (databases) which also use standardized subject headings or descriptiors to identify items on particular topic. However, when you search the internet you are always guessing what words will be in the pages you want to find. Trying to decide what subject terms were chosen by someone else to organize a web page or site about your topic can be nearly impossible and there is no Internet Subject Headings List or Internet Thesaurus which can help you.
