SLIS offers the MLS and MALS degrees via distance education. Students complete all of the coursework for the master's degree programs online.

Some online courses offer up to three optional face-to-face meetings during the semester (on Saturdays) so that students can meet their professors and other classmates, but these meetings are not required. In addition, a regular full day or half day forum is held each Fall providing all students the opportunity to come to campus, meet faculty and staff, and attend sessions on a variety of topics of interest (such as the Practicum, Final Exam Portfolios, certification requirements, etc.).

The components of a Distance Education program mesh favorably with the demands of the library profession as a whole. Skills acquired in information technologies, communication, time management, and problem solving are very important assets for today's librarians.

Online courses at TWU are highly interactive. Instructors use a course website called Blackboard for posting lectures and reading assignments. Students participate through discussion boards and/or chat rooms and e-mail. Assignments are submitted electronically.
