Dr. Bracey was Professor of Anthropology at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, and Professor of Criminal Justice at the Graduate School, City University of New York. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Relations from Harvard University and a Master of Studies in Law from Yale Law School.

In addition to many other articles, she is the author or editor of Baby-Pros: Preliminary Profiles of Juvenile Prostitutes; Police Resources and Effectiveness; International Criminal Justice Curricula; and The Decline of the Vaccination Model: Criminal Justice Education for a Changing World. She has also served as editor of Police Studies: The International Review of Police Development and The Journal of Criminal Justice Education.

Dr. Bracey has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the South Australia Institute of Technology, The Police Study Center of the Netherlands, and the Police Staff College in Bramshill, UK. She has been a Visiting Scholar at Australia's National Police Research Unit, lecturer at Beijing's Public Security University, Distinguished-Scholar-in-Residence at the American University in Washington and holder of the George J. Beto Chair at Sam Houston State University in Texas. She has received awards from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the State of New York, the American Association for Professional Law Enforcement, and the South Australia Foundation. In 1984-85 she served as President of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.

In addition to her years with LEMIT, Dr. Bracey has worked with the Texas Police Chief Leadership Series, the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Bureau, and the State Department's International Law Enforcement Academy. Her current interests include police and human rights as well as law and indigenous peoples.
