Dancing with heart and looking good doing it
Another spectacular semester for TWU dancers
Luis Rendon, Entertainment Editor

I do believe I can say without doubt that the TWU Dance Department has had yet another successful semester. Closing out the year with last week’s DanceMakers, Too performances the TWU dancers have solidified their status as some of the most talented and artistic students this side of TWU – they also don’t look half bad, if you know what I mean.

The dance department kicked off the year in September with the International Dance Company (TWU’s resident folk dance group) performing at Denton’s 4th Annual Fiesta on the Square. Debuting the fresh faces of the group with new Latin dances and old favorites with the polished and sexy-as-ever upperclassmen dancers, Fiesta on the Square was more than dancing, it was pure fun. With bright colored dresses, stomping, clapping, and all around hip shaking the group got the year started at a high note.

October’s presentation of the much talked about and lauded Daughter’s turned the department on its heels, reminding audiences how versatile TWU dancers are. Nika Stien’s performance in this unique and ever evolving piece aimed at investigating the relationships created by women and their daughters, specifically the Madonna and her daughter. Set in the scene appropriate Little Chapel in the Woods and with beautiful music provided by the organ, Daughter’s is one of the most thought provoking and unique pieces performed this year.

Countless special event performances later, and the TWU dance department hit November running, prepared for their busiest and most exciting month yet. With the youth oriented KidsDance, annual show stopper DanceMakers, and finale DanceMakers, Too practiced and polished for audiences November came and went in a flurry of pirouettes, leaps, and other mind boggling choreography – all by the ever so talented dance students of TWU.

Anyone who attended any of the Dancemakers or Dancemakers, Too performances can speak endlessly of the talent that is being produced at TWU, so I won’t try and persuade you with words how amazing the men and women of this department truly are. No, seeing is believing when it comes to TWU dancers. It may be too late to catch any of the performances for this semester, but the curtain will open again next year for the great talents in the TWU Dance Department.

Being pretty in Hollywood is hard enough

A holiday gift from me to you

Luis Rendon, Entertainment Editor
I’m feeling nice and giving (Santa is still watching right?,) and it is the holiday season so I’ve decided to give praise for five smartest people in Hollywood according to Entertainment Weekly. Think of it as my Hanakwanzachristmakuh gift from me to you. While I mostly agree with the list, I’ve gotta ask: where are the ladies? Anyway, here are the smarty pants men of Hollywood.

5. Will Smith – actor (I Am Legend, The Pursuit of Happyness)

4. Ari Emanuel – partner for Endeavor Talent Agency

3. James Cameron – director, producer (Beowulf,Titanic)

2. Steven Spielberg – director, producer (Transformers, Indiana Jones)

1. Judd Apatow – director/writer/producer (Superbad, Knocked Up)

Okay, I’m not as nice as I pretend to be (maybe Santa is finished with his naughty list?), and this is supposed to be the Entertainment page, not World News Tonight. And who wants a list of famous and smart people for Hanakwanzachristmakuh when there is a list of the dumbest people in Hollywood out there? Here is a look at the dumbest people in Hollywood according to the Daily News. Ah, the ladies of Hollywood make an appearance here, at the top of the list.

5. Shia LeBeouf – actor (getting arrested for not leaving a Walgreen’s, really?)

4. Jeff Kwatinetz – producer (this is the guy who gave the green light for Britney Spears’ MTV VMA performance)

3. Spencer Pratt – reality ‘star’ (if you’ve seen an episode of MTV’s The Hills, no further explanation is necessary)

2. Kim Kardashian – Paris Hilton wanna-be (this celebutard leaked her own sex tape…and no one cared)

1. Lindsay Lohan – actress/singer (rehab twice in one year, bad boyfriend choices, and even worse movie choices makes Lindsay the dumbest girl in Hollywood)

Smart, dumb, and everywhere in between, Hollywood runs the gambit when it comes to IQ scores. And even though the ladies were out shined this year in the smart category by the men, they did represent on the smarts list. Making the list were actress Meryl Streep, senior vice-president of Paramount Amy Powell, and actress Cate Blanchett. For now the men sit happily at the top of the smart people mountain and the women will just

Jingle all the way to the movies this winter
Luis Rendon, Entertainment Edito r
Okay, let’s call October’s opening of Fred Claus a flub, a mistake, the result of holiday anxiety, or just another blip in Vince Vaughn’s fading Hollywood star. But don’t be wary of other upcoming winter movies. The theaters are going to be packed this next month with some of the most anticipated movies of the year. From sci-fi thrillers (The Golden Compass) to musical chillers (Sweeney Todd) to musical chipmunks (Alvin and the Chipmunks), this month promises to be a good one for cinema. I mean seriously, who doesn’t like Alvin and the Chipmunks?
