Thesis Option (30 hours)
Basic KINS Requirements (6 hrs):
- KINS 5023 Methods of Research
- KINS 5033 Applied Statistical principles
Pedagogy Specialization (15 hrs):
- KINS 5763 Systematic Observation in Physical Education and Sport
- KINS 5773 Physical Education in the Curriculum
- KINS 5783 Learning and Teaching Styles in Physical Education and Sport
- KINS 5903 Experiential Education: Low Ropes
- KINS 5983 Thesis I
- KINS 5993 Thesis II
One course from the following:
- KINS 5832 Issues in Adapted Physical Education
- KINS 5853 Appraisal of Psychomotor Dysfunctions in APE
- KINS 5863 Pedagogy in APE
Three hours of coursework in addition to the 15 hours in the pedagogy specialization allow for a course to be taken within or outside the department of Kinesiology. It is recommended that students consider:
- KINS 5903, Experiential Education: High Ropes or
- a course from academic areas directly related to teaching physical education
Non-Thesis Option (36 hours)

- KINS 5773 Physical Education in the Curriculum

- KINS 5903 Experiential Education: Low Ropes
- KINS xxx3 Culminating Experience
One course from the following:
- KINS 5832 Issues in Adapted Physical Education

- KINS 5863 Pedagogy in APE

- KINS 5903, Experiential Education: High Ropes or
- a course from academic areas directly related to teaching physical education.
Culminating Experience Options:
All students choosing the non-thesis option must complete a culminating experience approved by the student’s committee. The student and her/his advisor will jointly develop a logical sequence of courses and application experiences from one of the following areas: experiential education, coaching, wellness, working with person’s with disabilities and supervision.
