Information Technology Services (ITS) embraces the whole-campus concept by providing centralized technology management and critical infrastructure to connect TWU faculty, staff, and students not only to each other across all three campuses, but seamlessly, to the outside world as well. I.T.S. accomplishes its mission through its three major departments; Technical Support, Programming and Reporting, and Network and Engineering.
Technical Support keeps a pulse on the campus by providing on-site support for over 2000 faculty and staff computers across all three campuses. Each workstation includes an industry standard collection of software applications, such as Microsoft’s Office Suite, along with specialized applications to conduct unique businesses processes. This dedicated team of technicians also ensures stable operation of over 1100 lab computers, along with the stand-alone kiosks in key locations to provide students every opportunity to connect to technology at a moment’s notice. They have also created a program to provide free antivirus and discounted software products to students, faculty and staff.
The Programming and Reporting department specializes in analysis, design, integration, and evaluation of information technology systems directly impacting TWU’s mission. They work across the variety of campus departments to offer feature-rich applications for all aspects of the university’s business operations. Some of the major areas are accounting, budgeting, finance, financial aid, HR, and student web registration. From prospect student through graduation, Programming and Reporting serves all critical business needs as TWU students transition throughout their college years.
The Network and Engineering department is the primary steward for the University’s lifeline – the network. This department is responsible for the University’s entire technology infrastructure, consisting of telecommunications, networks, email, business applications, database management, servers, and the TWU portal. Wireless ‘hot spots’ are also provided for laptop users to securely connect to the World Wide Web from various locations on campus. Network and Engineering also provides application development, risk assessment, information security, continuity, and compliance to help ensure faculty, staff and student information is kept safe in a digital world.
