About the TWU College Access Challenge Grant (CACG)
Program: TWU CACG provides programming through workshops to high school members at four Girls Inc. Community Centers and Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. Intensive summer workshops and school year mini-workshops including visits from the TWU Mobile Go Center will be implemented and presented by the Outreach Program Coordinator and the TWU G-Force (THECB Work-Study Mentorship Program) including the following topics: postsecondary education benefits, opportunities, college choice, application process, planning and career exploration, financing options, financial literacy, debt management, FAFSA and TAFSA.
Student Participants to be Served: TWU serves the members at the four Girls Inc. community centers that are located in economically disadvantaged areas of Dallas. Three of four high schools served by these centers are HB400 schools. TWU also provides services to high school students served through Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.
Goals: (1) Provide information through workshops and one-on-one sessions to students and families on postsecondary education benefits, opportunities, planning, and career preparation. (2) Provide information on financing options, including activities that promote financial literacy and debt management among students and families. (3) Conduct outreach activities for students who may be at risk of not enrollings in or completing college. (4) Assist student in completing the FAFSA and TASFA.
