Dr. Carol Huettig

In memory of Carol Huettig, 1950-2006Dr. Carol I. Huettig was an extraordinary individual who taught and coached at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point from 1981 until 1989. Further, she taught in the adapted physical education and early childhood programs in Dallas ISD from 1989 to 1996, at which time she joined the TWU faculty as a Visiting Professor and Coordinator of the Personnel Preparation Federal Grant that supported adapted physical education doctoral students. She retired in 2006.

She was a masterful leader who inspired her students and athletes to continually raise their goals and perform to their maximum. Her students remember her for her wonderful sense of humor, for making every class interesting and engaging, and for bringing treats on exam days.

As a specialist in Adapted Physical Education, Dr. Huettig was a passionate advocate for underserved populations, particularly children. Her research focused on ways to improve services to children with disabilities, and she shared that information by authoring many articles and books and speaking at conferences throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Audiences remember her as an enthusiastic speaker with a flare for challenging others to raise their level of services to persons of all ability levels.

Dr. Huettig was very intuitive about individuals’ feelings. She had a gift for sensing the needs of people and reaching out to assist them in any way that would protect their dignity and self worth. Those she helped never forgot her kindness.

Last, but not least, she was a lover of dogs, a great cook, and knew how to throw a fabulous party!!
