Short Term and Long Term Disability
As a Texas State employee, if you enroll in Disability
coverage, and become disabled, you may be eligible for disability income during the time your physician determines that you are unable to perform your normal work duties.
Short Term Disability:
-
you must be off work for at least 30 days
-
you must exhaust your sick leave hours
-
you will be eligible to receive 60% of your September 1 ERS reported salary in disability income
-
you will receive the short-term disability income for a maximum of 5 months
-
your disability income will coordinate with Social Security, Workers Compensation and/or any other disability retirement program
Long Term Disability:
-
you must be off work for at least 90 days
-
you must exhaust your sick leave hours
-
you will be eligible to receive 60% of your September 1 ERS reported salary in disability income
-
you will receive the long-term disability income up to the age of 65
in most cases (as long as your physician determines that you are still disabled)
-
your disability income will coordinate with Social Security, Workers Compensation and/or any other disability retirement program
